BEDO Hosts International Forum 2014
on “Biodiversityand BioEconomy Development: Global Opportunities
Bangkok, May 21, 2014 – Biodiversity-Based Economy Development Office (Public Organization) (BEDO) hosts an International Forum 2014 on “Biodiversityand BioEconomy Development: Global Opportunities and Challenges” which features a panel of well-known international speakers from over 10 countries. The Forum takes place from May 21 – 23, 2014 at Vibhavadee Ballroom AB, Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok, Thailand with no admission fee for interested delegates.
Dr. Veerapong Malai, Director General and CEO, Biodiversity-Based Economy Development Office (Public Organization)(BEDO), said “BEDO is an organization established to promote the management of biodiversityresources utilization for economic purposes in 3 aspects including 1) to encourage sustainable conservation and utilization of biodiversity with involvements from business sector 2) to communicate, educate and raise public awareness on biodiversity in response to the decade of biodiversity as noted by United Nations for 2011 – 2020 and 3) to conduct researches on necessary biodiversity and interact with biodiversity dialogues for year 2011 – 2020, and to establish collaborative networks among local and international organizations engaging in biodiversity management and BioEconomy Development. BEDO has already expanded collaborations with other countries within and outside this region in preparation for the Thailand Mega Project on National Inventory of Genetic Resources with Potential Value and Utilization to Establish National Databases with Complete Management System for Collection, Protection, Conservation and Services.”
Moreover, BEDO was chosen to be a host for the Second International Symposium on BioCultural Diversity Conservation to encourage the exchange of knowledge on biodiversity and traditional knowledge to develop sustainable bioeconomy.
The year 2014 is an excellent opportunity for BEDO to host an International Forum under the theme “Biodiversityand BioEconomy Development: Global Opportunities and Challenges.” Including in the invitation list are local and international experts, executives, academicians,
researchers from educational institutions, public entities, associations, and private sectors involving with biodiversity from over 10 countries. The Forum will take place from May 21 – 23, 2014 at Vibhavadee Ballroom AB, Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok, Thailand with no admission fee for interested delegates. Over 500 delegates are expected to join this Forum.
In relation to this Forum, BEDO hopes that the study and priority on biodiversity would be enhanced and leap forward while encouraging the exchanges of knowledge and experiences among Thai academics and international bodies. New technologies and know-how on sustainable biodiversity resource conservation and utilization will be learnt to promote the biodiversity management in conjunction with conservative moves. Moreover, new partnerships among local and international organizations on biodiversity resources will be forged out.
